Dr Mwakima chairs a stakeholders meeting between KEPSA and SAGAs in Environment sector

The government will continue to engage the Private sector in order to achieve its development agenda in accordance with vision 2030, the Principal Secretary for State Department for Natural Resources Dr. Margaret Mwakima has reaffirmed

The Ps was speaking when she met members of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Ministerial Stakeholders in Nairobi where various opportunities of engagement were explored.

The forum deliberated on areas of mutual engagement with the private sector which include the status of various bills such as the Water Bill 2014, National Environment Policy, Climate Change Bill and Frameworks for incentives in engaging stakeholders on environment friendly investments Forum.

Dr. Mwakima called on the National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND), an organization under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Authorities, to work closely with the Private sector in mobilizing resources for Environmental Conservation.

She urged the private sector to join hands with the Ministry during this tree planting season in an effort to achieve the recommended 10% tree cover.

The private sector Alliance members were led by Mr. Suresh Patel, chairman of KEPSA environment, water and Natural Resource Sector Board.

Others who attended the meeting were National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) Director General Geoffrey Wahungu, Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI) Director Dr. Ben Chikamai and the Conservation Secretary Mr. Gideon Gathaara.
