13.04.2013 -The Ministry of Environment Natural Resources and Regional Development Authorities is mainstreaming its programs and projects to fit into County Integrated Development Plans, Principal Secretary, State Department of Environment and Regional Development Authorities, Mr. Charles Sunkuli has said.

He noted that some of the programs and projects being undertaken by the semi-autonomous government agencies (SAGA’s) under the Ministry will be best implemented as part of county governments development plans if they were to make the desired impact to the tax payers.

The PS was speaking during a workshop for the Ministry’s technical officers and chief executives of the parastatals to harmonize the various activities and develop a framework for financial flow for the various projects in the next financial year, among other issues.

The meeting held at an Eldoret Hotel developed mechanisms for engagement in trans-boundary management of environment and natural resources and finalized Regional Development Authorities’ bills, policy and strategy to avoid duplication with county governments.

Mr. Sunkuli appealed to the SAGA’s under the Ministry to incorporate in their programs, climate change activities in a bid to plan mitigation and adaptation of the phenomenon among the projects beneficiaries.

Among the SAGA’s represented in the meeting were Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Forestry Research Institute and the Regional Development Authorities of Kerio Valley Development Authority, Lake Basin Development Authority, Ewaso Ng’iro South Development Authority, Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority, Coast Development Authority and Tana and Athi River Development Authorities.
