The Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Prof. Judi Wakhungu , has lauded the Dutch government for its continued partnering with the Kenya government , in combating trade in illegal wildlife products, which is pushing species to the brink of extinction, hence  robbing countries of their natural heritage.

Speaking in her office, when she received the Netherlands Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Martjin Van Dam, Prof. Wakhungu, who was accompanied by her two Principal Secretaries Dr. Margaret Mwakima of Natural Resources and Mr. Charles Sunkuli of Environment, rooted for the two governments to come together in partnership to find common solutions to conservation challenges, noting that, an integrated and universal approach is needed to secure success and prosperity in the future. Prof. Wakhungu noted that,  with coming into law of the new wildlife act, the Kenya government is already making strides in curbing the destruction of our natural heritage, and called on Netherlands, together with the European Union to support  Kenya’s initiative during the CITES conference to be held in South Africa in September, 2016.

Mr. Martjin Van Dam, who was accompanied by the Netherlands Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Frans Makken and other embassy officials, expressed his country’s desire to work closely with the Kenya government in tackling the illegal trade in wildlife, which is one of the most critical issues of our time that is profiting international criminal networks.
