PS Dr. Margaret Mwakima receives Her excellency the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta during the launch of WWF-KENYA as a locally registered NGO and launch of it’s strategic plan, at Hotel Intercontinental yesterday 24th Oct. 2016.

CS, Prof. Judi Wakhungu has said that World Wide Fund (WWF-Kenya) is a key conservation player in Kenya as it embraces critical thematic areas of water, forests, climate change, energy and marine resources. WWF-Kenya has been in conservation for the past five decades, a period uniquely equivalent to Kenya’s nation.

Prof. Wakhungu said this yesterday 24th Oct. 2016, when she addressed a well attended launching ceremony of the WWF-Kenya as a locally registered NGO and launch of their strategic plan. She said that since its establishment in 1962, WWF has worked very closely with the government of Kenya in conservation work that is relevant to Kenya’s Socio-economic development needs.

The CS commended WWF-Kenya in providing the rebuilding of Kenya’s rhino population after the decline during the early 1980’s by expanding its work to include the trans-boundary Mara river basin and marine resources. Their work in mara includes the establishment of community conservatism for mutual conservation and economic benefits.

Those who were present during the launch of WWF Kenya, were her Excellency, first lady, Margaret Kenyatta, Chief Justice and president of the supreme court, Hon. Justice David Maraga, D.G. WWF Mr. Marco Lambertini, among others. Principal Secretary, State Department of Natural Resources, Dr. Margaret Mwakima was also present.
