CS Keriako Tobiko makes a point to the Chinese delegation that paid him courtesy call

The establishment of the African Centre as recommended by the UN Environment Programme will boost sharing of important environmental information on technology transfer and carbon markets between Kenya and China.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Mr. Keriako Tobiko noted that the recent memorandum of understanding between the Government of Kenya, the People’s Republic of China and the UN Environment Programme regarding the Centre will enhance cooperation between the two countries in environmental interventions.

The CS was speaking yesterday when he received the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Kenya H.E Dr Liu Xanfia who paid him a courtesy call.

They noted that once established, the African Centre will promote China and Africa cooperation and support Kenya’s efforts to achieve Vision 2030 and it’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Over the years the Chinese Government has partnered with the Kenyan government to offer training opportunities and scholarship programmes to senior government officials.

Ambassador Xanfia emphasized the important role of the environmental sector in the two governments adding that it was one of the economic pillars for the Chinese government.

The Ambassador was accompanied by officials from the embassy of the People’s Republic of China and permanent representatives to UNEP.
