Delegates at the circular economy event

Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has challenged policy makers attending conferences like the just concluded United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA 4) to come with action plans that will help in implementation of resolutions adopted.

The CS spoke at the circular economy event co-organized by governments of Kenya, Japan and Finland at the sidelines of UNEA4.

The meeting discussions were centered on scientific and business oriented circular economy, with panelists exploring ways of making maximum use of resources for as long as possible, to extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

During the event CS Tobiko called on governments and policy makers to come up with a framework to help movement from linear to circular economy.

CS Tobiko said governments should provide incentives and technology for private companies and citizens that are finding safer solutions for the environment.

The CS said a circular economy creates new opportunities for growth, reduces waste, drive greater resource productivity and helps reduce the environmental impacts of production and consumption

Speaking at the event Japan Minister for Environment Yasuo Takahashi said that Japan will take lead in combating marine littering while his Finnish Minister for Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen said that there is need for effective education and rising of awareness on transition from linear economy to more resource efficiency circular economy.
