The CS, Mr. Keriako Tobiko, with the CEO, Insurance Regulatory Authority, Mr. Geoffrey Kiptum, unveiling the plaque to officially launch the partnership at the Tudor Creek

The Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Keriako Tobiko, has hailed the Insurance Regulatory Authority, for heeding the government directive that was issued to all Ministries, Departments and Parastatals as well as Private sector, to commit 10 per cent of their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget to planting and growing trees.

Noting that the directive was informed by the recurring negative impacts of climate change and increased clamor for mitigation, Mr. Tobiko observed that, in recent year’s Kenya has witnessed un-precededent climate change effects, manifested in terms of frequent cyclic droughts, rising temperatures, erratic rainfall and reduction in river flows and water tables

The CS, made the remarks at the Tudor Creek, Mikindani in Mombasa County, when he inaugurated the partnership between the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and the Kenya Forest Service on the implementation of the Presidential directive on the 10 per cent tree cover by 2022. The five year partnership, which is part of IRA’s 10 per cent Corporate  Social Responsibility, will focus on the restoration of the mangrove forests along the shoreline and will enhance the environment, social and economic benefits of the mangrove ecosystems.
