A token for you Sir!. The PS receives a gift from the chair, NEMA board, Mr. John Konchella, as the Ag. DG, Mr. Mamo B. Mamo looks on.

Ministry of Environment and Forestry Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo has called for strengthening of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), to enable the authority to execute its mandate.

Speaking during a familiarization tour at the NEMA Kenya headquarters  at South C, the PS said that in order to achieve a sustainable clean healthy environment, NEMA must be equipped with financial and human capital.
Dr. Kiptoo challenged NEMA to take stock of their activities and services to the public, and report on the success rate of what they have achieved so far as an institution.
The PS promised to support NEMA, saying he will provide leadership and coordination while the agency will provide the necessary technical support.
“You have a duty and responsibility as provided in the constitution to ensure Kenyans have a clean and health environment , you have 17 functions which you must ensure they are executed”, said the PS.
NEMA Acting Director General Mamo B Mamo said the authority was understaffed and lacked office space , while their budgetary allocation was strained.
NEMA Board Chairman  John Konchella reiterated on the need to equip the authority with staff and enough budget to enable it implement policies and services to Kenyans.
Dr. Kiptoo was serving in the same docket at Ministry of Trade , he took over last week from Former PS Bett Maina who was promoted to CS Ministry of Trade and Industry.
