The Secretary, Administration, Mr. Joe Kitili, opening the stakeholders workshop

The Secretary, Administration, Mr. Joe Kitili, opening the stakeholders workshop

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, through the National Ozone Unit in collaboration with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ}, a German development agency, that provides services in the field of international development, together with training institutions, is conducting several Refrigeration and Air Conditioning {RAC} technicians’ trainings on safe use of natural refrigerants, that are used in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector.

In a speech read on his behalf, by the Secretary Administration, Mr. Joel Kitili, during the official opening of the Qualification, Certification and Registration (QCR) Stakeholders’ Workshop in a Nairobi hotel, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, lauded the GIZ for its continued support to environmental matters and noted that, the Stakeholders’ workshop, will provide technical assistance to Kenyan stakeholders in developing a training and qualification, certification and registration scheme for the country, thereby, establishing a suitable infrastructure for the operationalization of the scheme within the local context for both the formal and informal sector.

Dr. Kiptoo observed that, Most of the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in the country are usually inefficient as they are mostly based on obsolete technologies and noted that, the situation was even made worse by the fact that, the alternatives that are both friendly to the Ozone Layer and climate are not readily available in the country, though they are available internationally, and that, trained Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Service technicians are inadequate.

In order to bridge the gap, the PS called upon the participants, to ensure that the outcome of the workshop, addresses all the requirements of fully implementing the qualification, certification and registration scheme in the country.
