Environment PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo  held discussions with British High Commission Head of Economic Development and Climate Mr. Mike Foster, regarding the partnership on climate and environment.

The PS said that the Ministry was keen on partnering with the United Kingdom in implementing projects and programs in clean energy, nature based solutions (natural capital), climate resilience, climate policy, and green finance climate innovation.

Regarding the ongoing campaign to increase the county’s forest cover to 10 % by 2020 , the PS said that the forestry department will scale-up and provide business models that will spur commercialization of tree farming.
He said the Ministry will work with the development partners such as the British High Commission and private sector to develop public-private partnership models to support increase of tree cover and promote sustainable production of timber.
British High Commission, Head of Economic Development and Climate – Kenya Mr. Mike Foster said that the UK is keen to support acceleration and delivery of Kenya’s climate action and priority areas.
He said that the UK will provide technical assistance for the Ministry through the Nationally Determined Contributions Partnership to enable it implement it’s priority projects.

Mr. Foster said the partnership will also develop an implementation plan for the Mau Forest Complex as part of the UK’s commitment under the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
