Nagoya protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing
Objective: Fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources which contributes to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Date adopted: 29th October 2010 Signed: 1st February 2012 Ratified: 7th April 2014 Entered into Force: 12th October 2014 Government Obligation: Sustainable use, access and benefit sharing arising from use of genetic resources. Focal Points: ABS National Focal Point Principal Secretary Ministry of Environment and Foresty ABS National Focal Point ABS Competent National Authority National Environment Management Authority Projects/Initiatives: Global ABS project. It is funded by UNDP- GEF. Its aim is to review existing biodiversity laws and help in developing new legal instruments for the implementation of Acces- Benefit Sharing (ABS) in the country. |
