British High Commissioner Jane Marriott receives Environment PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo at Her residence in Muthaiga, the two officials discussed on possibilities of partnership in different sectors of the environment

Ministry of Environment and Forestry Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo met with British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott, to discuss key priority areas of partnership.

The PS hailed the cordial relationship and partnership between the  United Kingdom (UK) and Kenyan government.
Dr. Kiptoo congratulated the United Kingdom for winning the bid to host the Conference Of Parties (COP) 26, and reaffirmed Kenya’s support to the United Kingdom for the successful delivery of the COP.
On key priority areas for partnership, the High Commissioner and the PS  held discussions on support for to clean energy; Bio-carbon engineering – technologies for mass seedling production and tree planting, planting of mangroves and community and ecosystem resilient projects among others.

The PS noted that the government was keen on establishing partnerships on pollution control , solid waste management, enhanced meteorological services for accurate weather prediction, enhanced watering points for wildlife to avoid deaths during droughts and  access to portable water for resilience.

The PS also requested for support for the Implementation of the National Strategy for achieving 10% Tree Cover  and commercial forestry sector.
He reiterated the governments’  commitment to planting  two billion trees by 2022 through the 10% tree cover strategy, in addition to restoring 5.1 million hectares of forests as part of African Forest and Landscape Restoration Initiative.
On her part , British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the British government was keen on elevating the Kenya -British relationship to an enhanced strategic partnership to allow both countries to focus their collective expertise , resources and leadership on the named five strategic pillars.
She said areas of strategic partnership will be centered on mutual  prosperity, sustainable and stability, sustainable development, climate  change and people to people link.
The High Commissioner said the thematic will help in addressing climate change issues in the country in building resilience for the people.

She said  the UK and Kenya will demonstrate global leadership on climate and environmental issues, by deploying expertise on climate finance, resilience and adaptation.

The PS was accompanied by Director Climate Change Dr. Pacifica Ogola , Kenya Forest Service Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests Patrick Kariuki.
