unnamed Deputy Head of Public Service, Mr. Wanyama Musiambu led locals of Mt Elgon in tree planting that saw 10,000 trees at Kaberua Forest. Speaking during the event, Musiambu called upon the locals to take advantage of the frequent rains in the area, to plant more trees to conserve Mt Elgon forest which is a critical water tower.

The trees were planted along river Kibuk, The Deputy Head of Civil said that water from Mt.Elgon serves the whole of Western region and destruction of the forest will interfere with millions of lives. He said encroachment on the water tower and cutting down of trees are leading to calamities like landslides and drought, and directed those practicing shamba system to vacate with immediate effect.
