IMG_7604 (1)Members of the National Council of Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) will develop an implementation plan that will see its members partner with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in a massive tree planting campaign in the country.
Environment and Forestry PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo has welcomed the move by the members to join the clarion call to increase the country’s forest cover to 10 percent by 2020.
 Speaking when the council leaders paid him a courtesy call in his office today, the PS said the ministry was keen on mobilizing the community based organizations, Non Governmental Organizations and communities to utilize their massive networks across the country to plant and grow trees.
The PS said the organizations will be key providers of the seedlings needed for the tree planting campaign towards achieving the 2 billion target and the national marathon that aims at hitting the World Guinness Book of Records.
The National Council of NGOs, Chairman Stephen Cheboi said that the council is ready to engage its over 15,000 NGO’s spread across the country and they will be actively involved in the campaign to compliment government efforts.
