The CS, witnessing the collection of water samples from River Galana in Malindi to testing

Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Keriako Tobiko has called on all stakeholders including the National and county governments to ensure the regulations prohibiting activities within the Nairobi River riparian reserves are observed and adhered to.

The CS, made the remarks at the Fourteen Falls, Thwake Dam and Galana Kulalu scheme, during stop overs to assess and have the water quality samples collected for laboratory analysis, when he led a Multi-Agency team, that has been directed by the Cabinet to undertake the clean up of the Nairobi River, from its source at the Ondiri Swamp in Kikuyu all the way to the Indian Ocean.

The team that comprises Ministries of Environment and Forestry, Water Sanitation and Irrigation, Interior and National Coordination, Treasury, Attorney General, Lands and Physical Planning, Devolution, Tourism and Wildlife and all agencies under the Ministries, is expected to clean, conserve and protect the ecosystem to ensure improved water quality for various users.

The CS, at the same time called on wananchi within the catchment to plant more trees and vegetation. The CS was accompanied by NEMA Director General, Mamo Boru Mamo, Mr Fred Nyongesa Manager, Water Quality at the Water Resources Authority representing the CEO.
