The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will continue to provide policy guidance to all its stakeholders to enable them to carry out their activities in a manner that is not detrimental to our natural heritage and wealth, Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Authorities, Prof. Judi Wakhungu has said.
Speaking when she presided over the launching ceremony of the Atlas of Kenya’s Biological Diversity at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Nairobi, Prof. Wakhungu noted that, Kenya is endowed with a wealth of natural capital that forms the basis of the country’s social-economic development and the Atlas will provide the government, Kenyans and the global community with a comprehensive source of up to date data, policy and relevant information on Kenya’s Natural Capital.
Noting that our natural capital, that includes food, medicinal plants, energy, water catchments and pollination are the bedrock of our sustainable development, social welfare and security, Prof. Wakhungu said there is urgent need to adopt appropriate measures and timely interventions, in order to secure our natural capital so that our future generations can also derive similar benefits from it.
