The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in its effort to insulate Kenyan’s and protect the environment, has launched the first ever training program on climate change policy, planning and budgeting at both the National and County levels of Government.

The program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Kenya School of Government and the Council of Governors, is premised on the notion of mainstreaming climate change into national and county decision making process.

Launching the program during this year’s World Environment Day celebrations at Egerton University, Njoro, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Prof. Judi Wakhungu noted that, the program will form a significant contribution towards the implementation of the climate change Act 2016, as well as the Kenya’s nationally determined contribution (NDC).

The curriculum, which is leaner and centered with emphasis on case studies, field excursions, as well as other practical learning approaches, will target middle level managers and technical cadres involved in policy formulation, planning, budgeting and implementation of programs in sectors that are vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

The launch, was also attended by the Principal Secretary, state Department of Environment, Mr. Charles Sunkuli.
